RESIDENTS are set to be asked how the coronavirus pandemic has affected them in an upcoming survey.

Bracknell Forest Council (BFC) bosses are set to agree to the residents’ survey so they can prepare priorities for the borough’s recovery over the next three years.

A decision on whether to go ahead with the survey is set to be made by the council’s top team at a meeting on Tuesday, June 30.

According to data from the government, 263 people have tested positive for covid-19 in Bracknell Forest and 65 deaths have been coronavirus-related.

Lockdown has meant businesses have been forced to close and grants have been paid out to business owners and self-employed people, with money also made available for workers who have been furloughed from their jobs.

In the Bracknell constituency, 13,500 people have been in receipt of furlough money through the government’s job retention scheme, which covers 80 per cent of people’s wages.

More than 4,000 self-employed workers people in the constituency are receiving grants worth around £14 million.

Bracknell MP James Sunderland said: “This is a hugely challenging time for people and businesses, and the government’s schemes have helped to protect the livelihoods of thousands of people in the Bracknell constituency.

“This country has a world-leading economic response to coronavirus.

“And as we move through the second stage of our roadmap to recovery, we are determined to kick-start the engine of our economy while continuing to provide flexible support to those who need it.

“We will do everything we can to ensure people can pay their bills and put food on the table – as people continue to stay alert, to control the virus and save lives.”

The latest round of support for businesses in the borough was announced at the start of the month after the council received a funding pot of £570,000 to distribute to small businesses and market traders.
