A CAMPAIGN to save a long-standing ice rink and ski slope has gained momentum online within the Bracknell community.

More than 1,000 have joined an online community Facebook page to show their support for the John Nike Leisure Sport Complex (JNLC).

It comes after the JNLC made an announcement that consultations are underway on potential redundancies due to suffering financial strain from Covid-19.

The news rocked Bracknell town as the future of the ice rink hangs in the balance and jobs are at risk.

A call for volunteers has been posted online by Danny Perchard, who set up the Facebook Page 'Help Save The Bracknell Ski Slope & Ice Rink'.

Volunteers will be able to help with project managing, plumbing and decorating, planning, legal work, fundraising and leafleting, according to the page.

It said: "On behalf of the Bracknell Winter Sports Community Group, we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone offering their time one way or another.

"At the moment we don't have much available but in the coming weeks and months, opportunities may come and your help will be much appreciated.
