Neighbours are not happy about plans to demolish a two-storey house on a cul-de-sac and build four houses in its place.

The plans, on Riley Road, Tilehurst, were submitted in March and have since received dozens of complaints from neighbours.

Planning consultants have described the proposed scheme as a “well-designed form of development which is in character with its surroundings and respects the amenities of existing dwellings”.

But dozens of neighbours have strongly disagreed with this.

One couple said the “valued view across the grass verge and to the Copse will be completely obliterated” and called the plans “offensive”.

Rory Masson said he is “extremely concerned” about the impact on wildlife such as foxed, badgers, deer and birds, which he says would be “devastating”.

Another neighbour, Philip Allen called the plans “a damaging development out of keeping with the area”.

Stuart Beard said the development would increase the amount of cars on the road, making it less safe for children and vulnerable residents to use.

While another neighbour said the removal of the green space to build houses on would take away a place where children play.

Reading Borough Council (RBC) is likely to vote on the plans at a future  Planning Applications committee meeting.
