A WOODLEY resident who sold plants from her driveway has raised hundreds of pounds to buy food for ambulance staff working on the frontline.

Carly Beales, 32, started selling vegetable plants like tomatoes and runner beans from her home in Woodley to raise money to buy food for South Central Ambulance staff.

She began selling the plants at the beginning of May and within two weeks had sold between 1000 and 1200 units, raising more than £500.

Ms Beales used this money to buy snacks and meals for ambulance staff including cereal bars, long life goods, breakfast porridges and microwavable meal pots.

The supplies were then delivered to the South Central Ambulance depot in Reading for staff to enjoy.

She said: “Although this is a small gesture, I hope it may just be a small helping hand during these times of incredible pressure.”

She added: “What was really fuelling the idea behind it was that I had a hobby with my late grandfather who used to grow vegetables.

“I just kept on thinking I need to do something a little bit special with this.”

She continued: “I just wanted to do something that he would be proud of.”

Around five years ago she said she had chickens in her garden and would sell the eggs to people.

The money she raised was enough to buy a bed for the end of life ward at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
