Crews battling the blaze on Darwen Moor finally have it under control.

At 8am on Tuesday, eight fire engines will be in attendance at the scene and firefighters will be damping down hot spots to ensure further spread is prevented.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "The fire on Darwen moor is now under control.

"At 8 am this morning, eight fire engines will be at the scene and firefighters will be damping down hots spots.

"Three fire engines are at Longridge Fell and firefighters there are maintaining a watching brief this morning."

Before the sun set on Monday evening, ten fire engines remained on Darwen Moor working hard to bring the incident to an end.

The burn team from Bacup created fire breaks, which helped to contain the fire and four fire engines remained at the site overnight.

The spokesperson continued: "One of the techniques we use is burning the ground to create a fire break to stop the fire spreading further."

Lancashire Telegraph:

Three fire engines remained at the incident on Longridge Fell overnight, but the fire there was mainly extinguished by 3.30pm on Monday.

The police Tac Ops team issued a warning to drone enthusiasts to stay away from such incidents as flying their personal drones above the fires could seriously hamper the incident operations.

A spokesperson for the Tac Ops unit said: "As the woodland fires continue at Longridge and Rivington, we urge drone hobbyists not to attend the area with their own drone.

"Police drones and fire service drones monitor the fires with thermal capability, and personal drones are causing extra stress and danger which is not needed."
