A CAVERSHAM hair salon has decided to put a smile on residents' faces during the coronavirus pandemic by hiding hand painted pebbles in the area for people to find.

With the country in lockdown, Indigo Rye decided they wanted to repay the community for all their support and do something to help add a little sparkle to family walks in the Caversham area.

When the salon temporarily closed, Indigo Rye hairdresser, Gail Boorman, missed seeing her clients and decided to put her creative skills to good use.

She painted more than 150 pebbles and hid them in various nooks and crannies around the Caversham area.

Her intention was simply to bring a smile to whoever found them on their walks.

People started posting pictures of their children with the pebbles on social media.

“I thought what Gail had done was so lovely.

"With schools closed, the highlight for many families and children are their daily walks, so we thought it might be fun to turn it into a bit of a treasure hunt,” said Salon Owner, Karen Kennedy.

There are now more than 300 painted pebbles hidden in parks and on the local streets.

Families are encouraged to post pictures on Indigo Rye’s Facebook page by May 31 and they will be entered into a draw to win a haircare kit (and a goody bag for the children).

Karen added: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the response.

“We weren’t expecting the treasure hunt to be so popular, it’s so lovely to be able to lift the spirits of the local community who have supported us all these years.”
