CARE HOMES in Reading and Wokingham have received 'appreciation packages' from resident children hoping to help out during the coronavirus crisis.

According to the charity organisation Sewa Day, the children decided to make the packages after seeing their parents volunteering cooking and collecting for food banks, and also wanted to help.

After 'brain-storming' some ideas, the children decided on sending out the fun packages to various care homes in the community.

The 'appreciation parcels' consist of foods, letters and colourful drawings for more than 16 care homes across Reading and Wokingham, and the idea has now spread to Sewa Day organisations across the UK.

Bridge House, Twyford, said: "The care appreciation parcel has brightened the residents' day and they are looking forward to enjoying the food hamper”.

A spokesman for Sewa Day said: "Some of the children said it was great fun doing the care appreciation parcels, and they hope it brings a smile to the care homes."

Once 'appreciation packages' have been delivered to all the care homes in Reading and Wokingham, the children aim to deliver their parcels to other key workers in the community, as a thank you for their efforts.

Sathish Kumar, local co-ordinator for Sewa Day in Reading said: “The children's enthusiasm and passion for the 'Appreciation parcels' shows that we all can make a difference and spread some joy and that through creativity and determination we can overcome all challenges."
