THIS DJ trio have decided to host a completely virtual carnival for Reading residents tonight, featuring live bands and colourful outfits.

The three organisers, Terence Edwards, Brian Gayle and Ryan Saunders are part of a local DJ group who had previously hosted an online music show for Reading residents, decided they would host the carnival to 'uplift spirits during this time.'

The free online show is expecting over 400 residents to take part across Zoom, Facebook and Instagram, featuring various songs from Rnb, Funk and house to calypso and local steel band Raspo.

Mr Edwards said: "The last virtual event we did, across Zoom and Instagram about four weeks ago, reached a total of 300 people taking part, and so we've extended the maximum capacity to 400 people this time.

"Although have not previously organised any carnivals in Reading, we spoke to the main organisers who were happy for us to go ahead with it.

"Because everyone taking part is indoors, people can't really wear the traditional large carnival outfits, however we have been encouraging residents to get their children to create their own carnival headgear for the event - my two children have made their own and they'll be wearing them!"

The event will take place on Sunday, May 24 from 8pm until 3am, bank holiday Monday, May 25.

Mr Edwards added: "We have received messages from people after the last event who have said they've been struggling with their mental health during the pandemic, and have said they've had a really good night.

"People have suggested that we organise a donations page, however we thought we'd host the event to help uplift spirits during this time."
