A MAN has died in a car crash following a high speed police chase early this morning.

Thames Valley POlice confirmed this afternoon a BMW was involved in a crash on the Bath Road and a 41-year-old man has died.

The force also confirmed two men have been arrested in connection with the crash.

It comes as officers have closed off the A4 Bath Road since the crash happed shortly after 5am.

At 5.17am today, officers saw a blue BMW travelling at high speed along the road and began a pursuit.  

The vehicle failed to stop for officers and they then cancelled the pursuit.

Shortly afterwards, the BMW was involved in a crash, where a 41 year old man was declared dead at the scene.

Two other men sustained injuries at the scene, however police said they are not believed to be life-threatening injuries.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "The A4 Bath Road is currently closed in both directions between Berkeley Avenue and Parkside Road, and drivers are advised to avoid the area.

"A 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently in custody.

"Thames Valley Police has made a mandatory referral to the IOPC as a result of this incident due to prior police contact.

"The IOPC has decided to independently investigate this incident, and Thames Valley Police is fully co-operating with this investigation."

Officers currently remain at the scene of the incident, although Reading Buses has confirmed the road is reopened.
