THIS is the adorable moment three cygnets were reunited with their family after being “swept away by a strong current” on the River Kennet.

The video shows three young swans being released into the water and swimming over to join their family after being separated for the night following strong currents.

The young swans had been rescued by Swan Support, a swan rescue centre which treats and cares for sick and injured swans within the Thames Valley and surrounding areas, the day before.

The cygnets had been “swept away by a strong current” near Thatcham on May 18.

Wendy Hermon, operations director at Swan Support said the water was “quite fast flowing where they were found” and the cygnets were racing against the current.

She said “they couldn’t get back to mum and dad” and were “absolutely exhausted”.

The rescue centre took the three cygnets in for the night.

Swan Support’s Facebook post explained: “They did not practice social distancing, choosing instead to snuggle up to our other cygnets.”

Wendy said: “It was quite cute.”

After “a good feed and some rest” the cygnets were taken back to the river where they were reunited with their family who had moved further downstream where the flow was gentler.

Wendy, who has been doing this work for 25 to 30 years, said it does not matter how often you see cygnets reunited with their family, it is “special every single time”.

She added it is like “magic”.
