A NEW hotel could be coming to Winnersh, on the site of a recently shut down gym.

Nirvana Spa, on Mole Road, Sindlesham, want to demolish the Pulse 8 gym and build a two storey hotel with 70 bedrooms.

The hotel would include a gym a swimming pool, and the plans could create about 100 jobs.

Nirvana Spa has applied for planning permission from Wokingham Borough Council. Councillors on the planning committee will vote at a public meeting on May 21 whether to grant permission.

Neighbours wrote to the council with their concerns about the plans.

Paul Hose said: “Not including pubs guest houses, we already have four hotels in the immediate Winnersh area, including the Double Tree Hilton situated at the other end of Mill Lane. Therefore, another hotel would provide no obvious benefit or service to the area.”

Steven Everton said: “My concerns relate fundamentally to the issues of noise, lighting, transport, flooding and the potential impact of these issues on the adjacent neighbouring properties, specifically Harrow Way, and the impact on the vegetation habitat corridor between Harrow Way and the current site.”

The Pulse 8 gym closed down last year, and planners were concerned about its demolition. Nirvana Spa said they would use the entire basement of the new hotel as a replacement gym.

One local resident also concerned about the gym wrote to the council. Cheeragi Patel said: “When the closure of the Pulse 8 brand was announced in 2019, like many others I was extremely disappointed.

“I reviewed alternative facilities in the area and nothing has come even close based on a number of factors, where I live, where I work, and value for money.”
