Owner Dan Parsons said: "We had stock for VE Day, so decided to give away home decorating packs so people can still celebrate at home within social distancing rules.

"We got packs together of mainly flags, bunting and balloons.

"The packs we started with cost approximately £13, so we were putting out a suggested donation of £5.

"We were absolutely inundated with people and the original 50 packs, which we were worried we'd get left with, went in 10 mins.

"So by 9.30am we had run out of our intended giveaway."

He added that staff didn't want to let people down and, so scraped together more Union Jacks and red white and blue 'bits and bobs' from the store to give away for a donation.

"Within 30 minutes we had run out of everything and raised over £525 for SSAFA," said Dan.

"This all happened more or less before our intended start time of 10am.

"Incredible support from the public.

"I was even taking all the décor down off our building to give to people, so we only ended up with the arch and VE 75 in balloons!

"A wonderful hour under such difficult measures and times."
