AN OVERWHELMING number of residents think that more people were out of their homes in town during lockdown last weekend than there have been recently.

On a poll asking 'do you think more people were out this weekend?' 114 of the 130 votes said 'yes', while just 16 voted 'no'.

This comes as the sunny weekend apparently saw more people leaving their homes, and some stores reopened as essential retailers.

Luke McClutton commented on the poll: "Too many in fact but they will learn when it's too late."

Police have been reminding people to stay at home and only leave for essential journeys, no matter what the weather is like.

A driver was slapped with a £300 fine yesterday (April 27) after being pulled over by police in Whitley.

Thames Valley Police said, despite the driver having a valid reason to be out during lockdown, they did not have insurance to be driving.
