A SURGE in burglaries and break ins across Reading has prompted police to launch six investigations in just one week.

Various homes and sheds have been broken into and had items such as a playstation, wallets and bankcards stolen as well as bikes.

Thames Valley Police said on Sunday (April 19) between 4:20pm and 4:40pm in Highgrove Street a burglar entered a home through an open back door and stole a rucksack, wallet, and bankcards.

Sheds and garages are also being targeted by burglars.

The force said on April 20 between 9:50pm and 9:54pm in Kingsbridge Road, an offender broke into a shed and attempted to steal two bikes.

Similarly, on Sunday (April 19) and Monday (April 20) between 11:30pm and 6:15am in Windermere Road a would-be burglar forced the lock on a shed door but nothing was stolen.

Another home was targeted on William Street between Sunday (April 19) and Monday (April 20) and a bike was stolen after someone broke into the garage through a window.

The force believes the burglary happened between 6pm and 1:45pm the next day.

On Monday (April 13) a camera was stolen from a property in Whitley Wood Road after someone got into the building through an insecure garage door.

One home in Crown Street had bikes, keys and a playstation stolen overnight when an offender removed a pane of glass in the rear door.

Police said the burglary happened between Wednesday (April 15) and Thursday (April 16) between midnight and 9:38am.

Thames Valley Police is urging people to report any suspicious incidents, sightings or information to the non emergency number on 101.

It is also asking people to check their CCTV cameras, ringcam or dashcam and to register their valuables online.

It added there has been a rise in motor thefts and is asking people to be extra vigilant.

Thames Valley Police has not stated that it is linking these incidents.
