A former Virgin Media shop in Reading is set to become the latest town centre Mexican restaurant.

Chain store Tortilla could take over the shop, next to Sainsburys at Unit 1, 4-6 Broad Street, if their request for a licence is approved by the council.

The new restaurant would add to the growing number of Reading Mexican fast food joints in Reading.

American super-chain Taco Bell opened in Broad Street Mall in December 2019, while Mission Burrito is a small UK chain with offices based in Oxfordshire.

The owners of Tortilla, Mexican Grill Ltd, have applied for a license to sell hot food from 11pm till midnight and alcohol from 10am till midnight seven days a week.

Businesses need licences to sell alcohol at any time and must apply for “late night refreshment” permission to sell hot food between 11pm and 5am.

The company’s application is likely to be approved without any involvement from the council’s licensing committee unless written representations are sent to the council opposing the plans.

If you have any concerns about the proposal, emails should be sent to licensing@reading.gov.uk by March 16.

The company has also submitted plans for new signs to the council, which can be seen below.
