POLICE have cordoned off a house in Reading after a woman suffered burns.

At about 1.10 am this morning on Thursday, February 20, police were called to reports of an assault and a fear for welfare.

A woman in her 20s was rushed to hospital after suffering burns.

Police have arrested a 47-year-old man from Reading on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

He is also in hospital with serious injuries.

A number of officers are currently surrounding a property in Oxford Road, opposite Western Elms Avenue. 

A police spokesman said: "Thames Valley Police were called to Oxford Road, Reading at around 1.10am today (20/2) to reports of an assault and a fear for welfare.

"A woman, aged in her twenties, was taken to hospital with burns where she remains at this time.

"A man, aged 47, from Reading was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, he is currently in hospital with serious injuries.

"This is understood to be an isolated incident.

"Anyone who has information about this incident is asked to contact the non-emergency number 101 or make a report online quoting the reference 42 (20/2)."
