The following cases were heard at Reading Magistrates’ Court:

November 25:

DENNIS LEWIS, 58, of Tilehurst Road, Reading, admitted failing to comply with requirements of a community order by not attending rehabilitation activity on October 10 and October 31. Original offence included drink-driving in Norfolk Road, Reading, on May 16, 2019. Found to have 130mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit being 35mcg. New community order instated and ordered to pay £60 court costs.

BRANDON MASKELYNE, 20, of Anvil Court, Thatcham, admitted failing to comply with requirements of a community order by not attending unpaid work on October 30, October 31, November 3, November6, and November 7. Community order to continue and sentenced to prison for 16 weeks suspended for 12 months including 162 hours unpaid work. Also ordered to pay £60 court costs.

November 26:

JOHN COYLE, 30, of Walkers Yard in Reading, admitted driving while disqualified in Barkham Ride in Wokingham on November 21. Also admitted driving without the correct insurance in Barkham Ride, Wokingham on November 21. Also admitted driving dangerously on the same occasion, and convicted of failing to provide a specimen for analysis when required to by police on November 21 in Wokingham. Also admitted failing to comply with supervision requirements following release from prison by not keeping in touch on July 30 and not attending probation meetings on August 12. Sentenced to 16 weeks in prison due to previous record and character. Also ordered to pay £122 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. Disqualified from driving for 56 months.

JONATHAN KNIGHT, 39, of no fixed abode, admitted failing to comply with requirements of a community order by not attending unpaid work on August 8 or meeting on August 29. Convicted of original offence made in relation to theft of 15 pairs of mens skinny jeans worth £37.50 from Marks and Spencer in Bracknell on June 27. Original offence also includes a conviction for stealing four bottles of alcohol worth £100 from Morrisons, Berkshire, on June 27, conviction for stealing 14 pairs of skinny jeans worth £315 from Marks and Spencer on June 27 in Bracknell, plus a further conviction of stealing 14 travel trousers worth £553 from Marks and Spencer, Bracknell, on June 27. Community order revised to comply with rehabilitation activity.

LEE TAYLOR, 37, of Ian Mikado Way, Caversham in Reading, admitted assault by beating in Reading on August 5. Given a community order to comply with rehabilitation requirements and also made subject to a restraining order. Also ordered to pay £90 victim surcharge, plus £250 court costs.

VICTOR SIMION, of Oxford Road, Reading, admitted drink-driving in Pitts Lane, Reading, on November 4. Found to have 66mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit being 35mcg. Also admitted driving on the same occasion without the correct licence, or the correct insurance. Also admitted stealing a jumper worth £125 from John Lewis in Reading on September 23. Given a community order to comply with rehabilitation activity and to carry out 80 hours unpaid work. Disqualified from driving for 18 months. fined £170. Also ordered to pay £125 compensation and ordered to pay £90 victim surcharge, plus £85 court costs.

November 27:

JORDEN DAVIS, 28, of Newtown Road, Newbury, convicted of assault by beating of a police constable in Newbury on July 1. Also admitted failing to surrender to custody having been released on bail on November 26, and failing to comply with supervision requirements by not attending appointments on August 18, August 28, September 4, and September 11. Sentenced to 16 weeks in prison as assault involved ‘very unpleasant spitting’, and order to pay £122 victim surcharge.

November 28:

FLOYD BARNES, 26, of Kelvin Close, Arborfield, Reading, admitted being the registered owner of a vehicle that did not meet insurance requirements in Great Yarmouth on August 30, 2018. Fined £180 and ordered to pay £30 victim surcharge, plus £100 court costs.

RICKY BENNETT, 35, of Mackay Clase in Calcot, Reading, admitted drink-driving in Norcot Road, Reading, on May 25. Found to have 51mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit being 35mcg. also admitted failing to surrender to custody in Reading on June 13. Fined £340 and ordered to pay £34 victim services, plus £85 court costs. Disqualified from driving for 38 months.

JULIAN DUNN, 38, of no fixed abode, admitted stealing two toolboxes and Rayban sunglasses from a car in Slough on November 22. Admitted vehicle interference in Slough on November 22, and admitted common assault on the same day in Slough. Sentenced to 16 weeks in prison due to previous offending and ordered to pay £122 victim surcharge.

DANIAAL KHAN, 21, of The Drive, Earley in Reading, admitted driving while disqualified in Kings Road, Reading on October 19. Given a community order to comply with rehabilitation activity. Also ordered to pay £90 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. Six points added to driving licence.

CHARLIE KINSON, 24, of Webbs Acre, Thatcham, admitted drink-driving in Sevenacre Copse, Beenham, on November 13. Found to have 78mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit being 35mcg. Also admitted possession of class drug cocaine in Newbury on November 13. Fined £950 and ordered to pay £75 victim surcharge, plus £85 court costs. Disqualified from driving for 20 months.

ANTHONY LEMON, 55, of Morpeth Close, Reading, admitted being drunk and disorderly in Cintra Park, Reading on November 7. Also admitted commission of a further offence while subject to a conditional discharge for an offence of threatening behaviour. Fined £150 and ordered to pay £32 victim surcharge, plus £40 court costs.

KARA THOMPSON, 31, of Prospect Road, in Hungerford, admitted assault by beating of a police constable in Prospect Road, Hungerford, on November 11. Given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £21 victim surcharge. Also ordered to pay £85 court costs.

HARRY TUTHILL, 18, of Poffley Place, Thatcham, admitted being drunk and disorderly in Newbury on November 10. Given a conditional discharge and ordered to pay £21 victim surcharge, plus £85 court costs.

TIMOTHY DAVIS, 20, of Hemdean Road, Caversham in Reading, admitted criminal damage to a window at Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, on November 12. Given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £21 victim surcharge, plus £85 court costs.

GRAHAM EDNEY, 47, of Kingsley Close, Charvil in Reading, admitted drug driving in The Straight Mile, Reading, on June 1. Found to have cocaine in his system. Fined £100 and ordered to pay £30 victim surcharge. Disqualified from driving for 12 months.

LIAM SAMUELS, 45, of Arthur Place, Reading, admitted remaining or entering a premises that was subject to a closure order in Rupert Square, Reading, on November 14. Given a conditional discharge and ordered to pay £21 victim surcharge. Also ordered to pay £20 court costs.

LEWIS MARSHALL, 25, of Moreleigh Close, Reading, admitted assault thereby occasioning actual bodily harm. Fined £559 and ordered to pay £62.10. Must also pay £55 victim surcharge plus £85 court costs.

JORDAN PROUT, 19, admitted criminal damage to a window in Greenham on August 10. Fined £40 and ordered to pay £32 victim surcharge, plus £85 court costs.

November 29: DARREN CHAMBERS, 35, of Kersey Crescent, Speen in Newbury, admitted failing to comply with requirements of a community order by not attending supervision appointments on March 29, and not attending unpaid work on April 15, April 28, April 29, May 12, May 13, May 20, May 26, and May 27 all during 2018. The original offence involves failing to provide a specimen for analysis in Newbury while in Custody on August 3, 2017. Given a community order to comply with appointments including unpaid work for 100 hours. Also ordered to pay £85 victim surcharge.

CLIFFORD CLARKE, 18, of Carters hill Park in Binfield, admitted burglary dwelling and theft with no violence in Bellingbear Lane, Binfield, and stealing two bicycles worth £6,100. Sentenced to prison for 12 weeks suspended for 18 months including rehabilitation activity requirements plus 180 hours unpaid work. Also ordered to pay £1,000 compensation.

KELLY DARRINGTON, 26, of no fixed abode, convicted of stealing 11 DVDs worth £118.98 from Matalan in Newbury on April 13. Also admitted failing to surrender to custody in Reading on May 2, and convicted failing to surrender to custody in Reading on November 25. Admitted using threatening or abusive words or behaviour to cause alarm or distress in Reading on April 24. Given a conditional discharge for 12 months. Fined £75 and ordered to pay £32 victim surcharge.

A fundamental principle of justice is that it must be seen to be done. The principle of open justice is acclaimed on a number of grounds: as a safeguard against judicial error, to assist the deterrent function of criminal trials and to permit the revelation of matters of interest.
