The pub has achieved several accolades and been up for many awards in the past few years - a more recent one was being titled 'the most dog-friendly pub in Britain' in November.

It is known locally for its warm welcome and special touches for canine companions, such as a special dog food menu, comfy dog beds and an array of water bowls for dogs.

The pub also received an award in late 2019 for being among 'the best' of Wadworth's managed and tenanted pub estates.

Speaking to The Chronicle, Jayne said: "This kind of took me by surprise.

"Miles and I are general managers for Wadworth.

"In the four years we have got stuck into the hub of the community and firmly put The Fox and Hounds on the map - in more ways than just being a pub that only sells food and drink.

"We would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the wonderful community that have supported us in everything we have done.

"We are not going too far away and we are going to be running another pub for Arkells Brewery.

"We are truly sad to be leaving, but we wish the new general managers all the very best of luck."

"I have loved working for Wadworth and can not thank Mike Phillips Denise Sheridan for believing in Miles and I.

"The Fox and Hounds Theale, what a journey."

She ended the post by stating that she would miss the pub 'so much' and thanking everyone for their support.

Floods of responses from locals poured in, including one to say: "Our amazing dog pub - you're so much a part of what attracts us there - service is amazing!

"We wish you well and we will get to see you before you go."

Another regular said: "Very sad to hear this too, love bringing princess here and such good hosts - good luck on your new venture."

Ms Tilsley will leave on Sunday, March 1.
