A HOTEL in Reading is supporting a homelessness prevention charity by donating soup to people in need.

Penta Hotels has launched their 'Souper Heroes' campaign which will provide hot soup and sit-down meals to people in need.

For every soup sold at the Penta Hotel Reading one soup will be donated to those in need through Launchpad.

The charity provide vital information and support for individuals, couples and families who don’t have stable place to live or are at risk of losing their home.

The hotel chain explained the campaign aims to inspire, to raise awareness and to enable guests to make a positive impact in the destinations they travel to.

'Souper Heroes' is a product of collaboration between Executive Head Chef John King and new partner, Netherlands based ‘The Smallest Soup Factory’.

Together, they have created three new soups for the campaign, which will be freshly prepared in their kitchens and also sold as take-away products.

There are several ways Penta guests will be able to participate in this project: (1) by ordering a soup of the day from the menu at any of their restaurants; (2) buying one of their three limited edition jars of soup for £4.00; or (3) purchasing a mug at one of their hotels for £6.00 - naturally, filled with hot soup.

Taking it one step further, until February 28, 2020 Penta is implementing a voluntary donation system where £1.00 is added to every guest’s bill throughout the winter season.

100 per cent of donations will be passed on to a local charity.

Jason McMahon, Corporate Partnerships Manager for Launchpad, said: “Pentahotel has supported the charity in so many ways over the years - from donations of prizes for our annual Pancake Race, to fundraising with a golf day and a vintage shoe shining service.

"Pentahotel’s souperheroes campaign is brilliant, not just because the company are continuing to raise vital funds for Launchpad in creative ways, but also because soup links to how Launchpad was founded four decades ago.

"In 1979, students from the University of Reading began a soup run for homeless people in the town and 40 years later, we help over a thousand people in Reading who are homeless or at risk of losing their home.

"This year we’re celebrating our 40th anniversary by opening Reading’s first work and life skills centre for vulnerable people to learn new skills and get back into work.”
