An Aldi spokesperson said: “Part of the former Waitrose site will re-open as an Aldi store this autumn, offering outstanding quality products at unbeatable prices.”

Residents expressed their sadness when Waitrose and Partners announced they were closing on July 2019, describing the store as having a 'close knit community' feeling.

Sally Knight, who is a resident in Sandhurst, said: "It is a real shame to see it go.

"I go to Waitrose as it is convenient to get little bits and pieces and the staff are so friendly so it's nice to have a chat and see familiar faces.

"I just feel sorry for the staff really because they seem like such a close knit community."

The closure was one of seven stores to close across the UK, putting a total of 90 jobs at risk.

However, it has been confirmed that Waitrose in Sandhurst has sold its contracts to Aldi.
