With research showing that 40 per cent of Brits believe pubs act as a social centre for the community and six in 10 people mainly visit their local to socialise, Craft Union Pub Company is supporting The Monument to activate its 'Try Jan Never Dry Jan' campaign to bring the community together.

The Monument has organised a number of events in January to maintain the community spirit and ensure there is entertainment for everyone.

Every Thursday they will host an Open Mic session, with live bands every Saturday and Quiz Nights on Fridays.

To commemorate the death of a local pub landlord, they are also teaming up with neighbouring pub, The Cock Inn to hold a fundraising event for the local community.

The event, which is running in early March, will include a range of activities, such as golf and clay pigeon shooting, with all proceeds going to Newbury Cancer Care in West Berkshire Community Hospital.

Neal Anderson, operator at The Monument, said: “It has been fantastic to get involved in the 'Try Jan Never Dry Jan' campaign and create opportunities for our customers to get together and banish the January blues.

"Through organising a range of fun activities and with our upcoming fundraising event that we are running in partnership with The Cock Inn, we hope to encourage our locals to keep socialising with friends and neighbours at the pub and make January a memorable month for all the community.

"The pub is the central hub for the community and we were determined to bring people together, whether they are doing dry January or not, to share good times with family and friends.

"Please do come down and join in, and raise money for some good causes in the process!”

Fiona Patterson, Operations Manager, Craft Union Pub Company, added: “With the festive period now behind us and the January blues in full swing for many, we have looked to find a way to bring the local community together.

"The 'Try Jan Never Dry Jan' campaign has already proved hugely popular across the country and we are looking forward to building on the positive community spirit that we’ve generated so far.”

To support the campaign, The Monument is offering a selection of discounted drinks in January including Non-Alcoholic and Low-Alcohol options, lagers, ales, ciders and craft beers.

Drink prices per pint will be reduced by 10 per cent - 30 per cent and some popular choices on offer include the Non-Alcoholic Old Mout Cider (£2.55), Non- Alcoholic Becks Blue (£1.75), Strongbow (£2.50), John Smiths (£1.75), and Carling (£2.70).

Craft Union will also be opening a second pub in Newbury in the coming weeks, the Old Waggon & Horses.
