PARTS of Reading are underwater as flood warnings have been issued for the area.

The River Kennet has burst its banks by the Oracle's riverside and water has flooded the base of the steps leading up to the restaurants.

Reading Chronicle:

Fast flowing water can be seen running through the town centre and properties are at risk of flooding in the Burghfield, Southcote, Coley and Holybrook areas.

Gov.uk's website explains river levels are high on the River Kennet in the Burghfield area and the area remains sensitive to further rainfall meaning properties are at risk of flooding.

The pub garden at the Cunning Man in Burghfield is completely underwater.

Reading Chronicle:

Further heavy showers are forecast today (January 16) but more settled weather is expected this weekend.

The website has advised people to "move possessions and valuables off the ground or to safety".

There have also been seven flood alerts for the area where people are being told flooding is possible and to be prepared.

  • Lower River Loddon
  • River Kennet from Thatcham down to Reading
  • River Pang from East Ilsley to Pangbourne and Sulham Brook
  • River Thames for Shiplake, Lower Shiplake and Wargrave
  • River Thames from Mapledurham to Sonning
  • River Thames from Pangbourne to Purley

Flood warnings for River Enborne and Foudry Brook are no longer in force as river levels have fallen below the flood risk threshold.
