THE Reading Sports Awards were launched at the Hilton Reading today (January 15).

A handful of people gathered to listen to the event founder, Alan Porton, officially launch the awards including the Mayor of Reading.

The ceremony, in its 32nd year, recognises sporting achievements within the borough of Reading and is sponsored by the Reading Chronicle.

Between 40-50 awards will be handed out to winners at the ceremony in June including sports personality of the year, primary school of the year, senior school of the year and loyalty awards.

Mr Porton explained between 200-300 people usually attend the event such as the Mayor of Reading and Sir John Madejski.

He also thanked the Reading Chronicle, the Reading Oddfellows, Simple Recruitment Services, the Hilton Reading and Reading Borough Council for sponsoring the event.

In the coming weeks readers will be able to nominate people through the Reading Chronicle.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Hilton Reading on Friday June 5.
