LAST week, we announced Costa Coffee had closed in The Oracle and we asked our readers what they wanted to see replace the shop.

Your responses flooded in with a mixture of ideas for the currently empty unit.

Some readers liked the idea of an independent coffee shop replacing Costa whilst others wished for the chain to remain.

Others thought there are "too many coffee shops in Reading as it is" and asked for "anything but another coffee shop".

An independent gift shop or zero waste/ethical shop was suggested too as was a fruit and veg shake cafe.

The idea of a Disney store returning to Reading also floated about — the Oracle previously had a permanent store located opposite HMV which closed in 2014.

One reader asked for it to be opened up as a space for families to enjoy such as a bowling alley or ice rink and another suggested the unit be turned into an arcade.

A place where people in the community, such as the homeless, can go for advice was also suggested.

Builders could be seen working inside the coffee shop last week.

A spokesman for The Oracle did not confirm the closure but said: "We have some really exciting plans for the unit, and we can’t wait to update our customers later on in the year.”
