'SHARP objects' have been recovered from two parks in Reading as part of a police crackdown on violent crime.

The items were uncovered on Sunday by Thames Valley Police cadets who conducted a sweep of Victoria Park and Kensington Park in Reading.

The force said 'several sharp objects' were recovered from the grass and hedgerow.

It comes as part of a four-day police operations to tackle issues such as knife crime and drugs in Reading.

During the operation officers also worked to identify hotspots for drug dealing in order to remove drugs from Reading streets.

The force said four people have been charged as a result of the opertaion, and nine arrests have been made.

It also recovered 410 wraps of class A drugs, 50 wraps of class B drugs, and one cannabis plant. Officers also seized hundreds of pounds in cash.

As part of the operation, officers were out in Oxford Road throughout, visiting schools such as Oxford Road Community School,  E P Collier Primary School, and Wilson Primary School talking to children about knife crime and speaking with Year 6 students about the dangers of carrying weapons.

There was also a 'knife arch' set up at Reading West Railway Station, where police conducted stop and searches and raised awareness about knife crime prevention. No knives were found during the railway-based search.

Deputy LPA Commander, Chief Inspector Ashley Smith said: "We are pleased with the results of this operation, which is part of our long term strategy to reduce serious violence and to make our communities feel safer and to reassure them.
