A 70-YEAR-OLD has been injured after a car reportedly ploughed into a home, forcing the closure of one of Reading's busiest roads into the town centre.

The car, which has L plates on, appears to have smashed through a brick wall and into the front of a house along the Oxford Road.

It happened close to the McDonald's, and the road was closed by emergency services in both directions. The road has since reopened for drivers heading both in and out of the town centre.

Reading Chronicle:

A spokesman from South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) said: "We received a 999 call at 9.48 with the caller reporting a collision between a car and a pedestrian outside McDonald’s on Oxford Road, Reading.

"We sent a paramedic team leader in a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance to the incident.

"The pedestrian was a 70-year-old female who fortunately appears to have escaped serious injury but has been taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital for further assessment and treatment."

Traffic built up in the area due to the road closure, and reports showed heavy queues along Western Elms Avenue where buses were also being diverted.

Police confirmed that the woman had a head injury and remains in hoispital.

A 34-year-old woman from Reading was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and she remains in police custody.

Traffic has since eased as the road reopened about 11am.
