1. Reading's HMV set to close

This one may feel a bit like deja vu, as only last February the store closed - for a matter of weeks before opening again.

Staff were seen putting up posters announcing the closure and sale on Friday, January 3.

According to a shop assistant, staff were given their notices on the day.

2. Food waste bins could soon be introduced in West Berkshire

Separate bins for food waste could soon be introduced in West Berkshire — but as a response to a petition calling for better plastic recycling.

The petition, started by Sukey Russell-Hayward last year, called for a wider range of plastics to be collected for recycling at the kerbside.

Specifically, the 2,356 who signed the petition wanted improve collecting and recycling of domestic plastic waste, like single-use plastics.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened in Reading on Sunday, October 27 between 5pm and 6.30pm, but was reported to police last month.

4. Crosfields School expansion set for approval despite traffic worry

A Shinfield school is set to get the green light for its plans to expand – but neighbours are concerned about “extremely difficult” traffic issues at the site.

Bosses at Crosfields School, which is a co-educational private school on Shinfield Road, want to create a “modern” building for GCSE students, meaning the age range of students would increase to include 14, 15 and 16-year-olds.

5. Cat mutilated near Reading's Prospect Park by 'UK Animal Killer'

A very sad one - a cat was found dead near Reading's Prospect Park, and is thought to have been killed by the 'UK Animal Killer'.

The mutilated cat was found on New Year's Day according to the South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty (SNARL) group.
