DASHING through the roads will soon be a flurry of 'reindeers' in the Devine December Daily Dash in aid of Berkshire's first children hospice.

Paul Farmer, 64, has taken on the challenge of the Devine December Daily Dash to raise money for charities across the county on the lead up to Christmas.

Paul has pledged to ‘dash’ for at least one hour of each day in December and on Monday, December 23, he will be walking more than 13 miles from Reading’s All Saints Church to Berkshire's Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice dressed as a reindeer.

He will be raising money for the service which was set up in 2001, after toddler Alexander Devine was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The Children’s hospice was the first in the county and was created after the family’s struggle of travelling to an additional hospice in Oxford for their son.

Although Paul has no direct connection to the hospice, he is very passionate about keeping the hospice running.

Mr Farmer said: “My heart is with Alexander Hospice, it’s almost like a family.

“When your child is sick the last thing you need to do is to travel.”

So far Paul has also walked and raised money for Sue Ryder in the past couple of weeks, walking to the charity’s hospices in Newbury and Wokingham.

He added: “For me it’s more important to raise awareness than to raise money.”

To give Paul a wave on his walk he will be setting off from Reading’s All Saints church at 10.30am on Monday, December 23. To donate go to justgiving.com/paulsdailydash
