A LOCAL veterinary nurse has taped a carrot to a wall in the name of charity, and hilarity.

Jessica Paine, a veterinary nurse of more than nine years, has mimicked the recently-viral art exhibit - a banana that has been gaffer-taped to a wall and sold for £120,000 - in order to raise funds for her colleagues who find this time of year especially difficult financially.

Ms Paine, from Winnersh, said: "A number of my colleagues are struggling financially, some have debt, some are supporting their whole family due to illness and some just struggle to get by each month.

"It came to my attention that last month an artist gaffer-taped a banana to a wall and sold it for £120,000.

"I'm not sure who in their right mind would pay this amount of money for something that took all of two seconds. It would take roughly five years for a veterinary nurse to earn this amount of money."

The carrot is currently taped to a wall in her home.

Ms Paine added: "I decided to do something pretty stupid and tape a carrot to a wall to see if we can get some money for myself and my colleagues, after all why not.

"Maybe it will go viral, we will do well and I will clear everyone's debts, but if it doesn’t then its just a bit of a laugh and we’ve lost nothing."

Reading Chronicle:

A fundraising page online has so far raised £50.

Ms Paine, who works in Wokingham, added: "I can’t believe someone has even donated £50 to be honest. We didn’t think we would get anything."
