Bewley Homes has shown its commitment to both charity and community by investing in a defibrillator from the Arrhythmia Alliance and presenting it to the Clift Meadow Trust in Bramley, Hampshire.

The developer’s Managing Director Andrew Brooks and Sales and Marketing Director Elaine Stratford paid a visit to the village to unveil the portable automated external defibrillator (AED) at the meadow’s pavilion. Trustee Angela Kerswell and Secretary Sarah Stubbs were present to receive the donation.

Bewley’s Centenary Fields development is a five-minute drive from Clift Meadow, with a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes on offer. Prices start at £329,950.

Andrew Brooks said: “When we launch a development in any town or village, it’s really important to us to support that community in a variety of ways.

“Donating a defibrillator to the Clift Meadow Trust was the ideal option for us, as its facilities are used by a huge number of people every week. The AED will be of vital importance in case someone suffers a sudden cardiac arrest.”

He added: “We are also passionate about supporting the work of the Arrhythmia Alliance, which does fantastic work with people suffering from heart rhythm conditions and their families.”

Should someone at Clift Meadow suffer a cardiac arrest in future, the AED can be used to provide a carefully controlled electric shock, to hopefully return the heart to a normal rhythm.

Sarah Stubbs from the Clift Meadow Trust said. “We have a number of sporting facilities here, including cricket, tennis, road running and football, plus lots of social activities. As a result, having a defibrillator on hand is ideal in case someone has a cardiac arrest. We’re very grateful to Bewley for their kind donation to our charity.”

Charlene Payne, Patient Services Co-ordinator from the Arrhythmia Alliance, explained that the charity is running an ongoing Defibs Save Lives campaign. “Every year, 100,000 people die from sudden cardiac arrest in the UK, killing more than lung cancer, breast cancer and AIDS combined. With CPR and an AED, the individual has a 50 per cent chance of survival, compared to just 9 per cent with CPR alone.”

She added: “It is fantastic that Bewley Homes is supporting Arrhythmia Alliance. We really appreciate every donation we receive, particularly as we are such a small charity.”
