A DIVISIVE proposal for a new pizza takeaway in Twyford has been thrown out by Wokingham planning bosses.

Fast-food managers wanted to add the store next to Londis on the row of shops on Longfield Road, but the plans split the community.

Bracknell News:

Those in favour wanted the new takeaway to come to Twyford because of a lack of pizza eateries close by.

One wrote: “I am surprised that (there are) more negative comments than positive, even though there (are) very few take away shops in Twyford.

“It would be great to have a pizza shop in Twyford.”

Bracknell News:

But neighbours worried about the new takeaway suggested more illegal parking and increased accidents could occur near the site due to a small number of parking spaces by the shops.

One wrote: “There is not adequate parking outside the current shops with near-miss accidents where users currently park on double yellow lines.”

Bracknell News:

Other worries included the risk of more anti-social behaviour at the site, noise and smells coming from the takeaway, and litter becoming more common around Longfield Road.

Wokingham Borough Council (WBC) planning chiefs have had the final say, however, refusing the plans for a number of reasons.

Inappropriate parking provision leading to greater safety risks on the road were two of fears planning experts outlined.

Bracknell News:

They were also unhappy with the ‘excessive’ height of the extraction flue as this would appear ‘alien’ within the street-scene.

Pizza bosses also failed to show how they would protect neighbours from noise, smell and vibration pollution caused by cooking food.

Twyford Parish Council also objected to the plans.
