TOWNS and villages all across Berkshire are being cast into Christmas with a packed calendar of light switch-ons as we count down to the big day.
Reading town centre has been leading the way as the town was lit up with festive spirit at last weekend's big Christmas light switch on.
Christmas lights burst into life across the Oracle, the main streets through Central Reading and the Broad Street Mall itself, with entertaining acts such as a pantomime of Cinderella, as well as a visit from Santa Claus and a bunch of his best elves.

This year's next big switch-on event takes place in Woodley's town centre on November 23 at 4:30pm.
It will feature carol songs and mince pies, supplied by the Earley Lions club, before the main celebrations start on December 1.
The 'Christmas Extravaganza', starting at 10am, will include a whole host of craft and food stalls, dancing performances, choir songs and - special for this year - a 'Rodeo Rudolph' ride for all to enjoy.

WOKINGHAM

This year, also on November 24, the 'Space Adventure' theme takes to the streets, celebrating the 50th anniversary since the first moon walk, and with the carnival parade making its way across Wokingham town centre for an hour long procession.
The procession parades crowds of people wearing costumes of that chosen theme that year, as the crowds last year either walked or stood on floats during the journey.
Santa's Grotto will also be open for little ones to enjoy, as well as entertainment and craft stalls for the grown-ups.
The procession begins at 4:15pm at Shute End and ends around the central tree at 5:15pm, when the lights will be switched on at 5:35pm.

THATCHAMThatcham's celebrating with style this December 6, as it calls on the town to join together for choirs, cover bands, community schools, steam engines that will be entertaining crowds.
There will also be a host of seasonal stalls for those unique Christmas present ideas.
Free parking is provided and the event starts at 5pm, ending at 8pm.

Hurst brings back it's classic Christmas fair on December 6 at Dinton Pastures this year, with a vintage galloping-horse carousel as well as festive stalls for all kinds of products, many of which could make the perfect Christmas gift.
Santa will be in his grotto, once again accompanied by his best elves, for all the children to enjoy and even ask a last-minute Christmas wish.
All this, while the Dragonfly Cafe will be selling its usual mix of drinks and snacks, for revellers to warm up and enjoy a hot drink in the winter weather.
The fair will be open from 10am - 4pm on both December 7 and 8.

TWYFORD

Reading Chronicle:

Twyford is gearing up to celebrate on Bell Corner on Sunday, December 1, as the local schoolchildren have been crafting their own wooden star decorations to be placed on the village Christmas tree.
This will be accompanied by a mixture of traditional carols and modern Christmas songs, sang by Glee UK, as well as a 'surprise guest' being booked for the event.
Each £1 wooden star sold will have the proceeds donated to local charity Building for the Future Wokingham - Play, Support and Therapy.
The event takes place from 5:30pm - 6:30pm.
