Wiltshire Police are warning Sky customers who lost access to their internet and TV last weekend to be vigilant after receiving reports of a scam.

Some people affected by the outage on Saturday November 16 and Sunday November 17 have received a message saying “Just to let you know your Sky internet service will be cut off within the next 24 to 48 hours”.

The scammers then sent a list of contact numbers for Sky with a prompt for customers to call them to prevent their services being cut off.

Customers who called the number were asked for their card number, account number and sort code.

Following this, the victim receives another call stating that a mistake has been made and funds have been paid into their account.

The person on the end of the call then asks that the victim attends their local bank immediately to return the funds to another bank account and keep a small amount of the money for the "inconvenience".

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "Please be aware when providing your bank details to any person over the phone.

"Banks and other major companies such as Sky will never call you and ask for your personal information like your date of birth or to provide your bank details unless you purchase something from them."
