The scaffolding was in place early this morning on top of a present base, and - opting against tradition - the gold star to grace the top of the tree was already in place.
The tree will be in place during the festive countdown to the big day and is expected to form part of the town centre celebrations and decorations along the riverside.
But do you think it is too early to get the tree up in town?
