A READING primary school is 'delighted' to have received a very generous donation from a local man who wanted to give back to the community.

Joseph John Cooper of JJ Cooper and Sons, who owns local park home estate, Garstons Park Home Village, donated £2,500 to Springfield Primary School to go towards improving the school field to ensure year-round usage.

The company has been raising funds to ensure the school field can be used in all weather conditions.

The field gets very muddy due to the colder weather, and the school's PTA have been aiming to raise £15,000 over the last two-and-a-half years.

The headteacher of the school Mrs East informed Mr Cooper's son James that they needed £2,500 to reach the necessary funds to start the work, and once Mr Cooper heard he got in touch.

On an exciting day for the school, he presented a cheque to Mrs East during an assembly, and described the children and staff as being 'delighted' to receive the donation.

Mr Cooper said: "Local community is important and I couldn't think of a better way to donate to children to help them get the best start in life."
