Bracknell Royal British Legion site could turn into shops

The Stanley Walk space has been closed since 2013 after “unsustainable losses” meant the charity could not keep its social club open.

Princess Square, which is being revamped, is just a few metres away from the former RBL location.

Bosses want to change the vacant unit’s use so it can be used as “one or more” shops on the corner of Braccan Walk.

A planning report claimed occupiers have not been found for the new shops, but bosses hope to attract retailers following advertising.

The report suggested the site benefits from “good pass-by pedestrian traffic”.

Plans suggest only half of the 800 square metre site will be used for retail, however.

It's time that a new development went into this site, the RBL building has been falling into disrepair for years.

Four new staff jobs would be created by the shop switch, according to reports.

RBL has continued its activities in supporting ex-military personnel in the area since the town centre site closed more than five years ago.

The proposal is currently being considered by Bracknell Forest Council (BFC) planning bosses.
