Royal Berks Hospital has apologised after sending out “confusing” letters informing parents that their child’s appointment had been cancelled.

Parents were left in a panic after receiving letters from the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust (Royal Berks) which informed them their appointment at Dingley Children’s Centre had been cancelled.

The trust has now confirmed that all appointments are still going ahead and letters will be sent out to confirm these appointments.

Royal Berks updated parents on Facebook, apologising for the “administrative error” which did not specify which appointments had been cancelled and left parents worrying that their appointments within the next few weeks could have been cancelled.

The trust said: “We would like to apologise to all families who have received a letter informing them that an appointment has been cancelled.

“Unfortunately, there has been an administrative error which has sent out letters to all families with appointments between January and April 2020.

“We are currently looking into the issue and will contact you directly with an update in due course.

“Thank you for your patience while we investigate this problem.”

Dingley Children’s Centre is due to move to the Erlegh House university site on December 13.

The centre, currently on 3-4 Craven Road, has a team of specialists who assess and treat children and young people who need help to overcome a developmental issue or a complex illness.

A spokesperson for the trust added: “We are currently looking into how the error occurred and can confirm that appointments booked for this period are still in place and will be going ahead as planned.

“New letters confirming appointments will be sent out as soon as possible and we would like to thank families for their patience.”
