THAMES Valley Police have now confirmed the final details regarding the funeral of PC Andrew Harper.

The funeral will be held at Christ Church Cathedral in St Aldates, Oxford, at 11am on Monday, October 14.

The force is working closely with Andrew's family to ensure they plan the funeral to their wishes.

Police have said anyone planning to visit the city on the day will see a large police presence in the area.

A spokesperson from TVP said : "Our thoughts remain with Andrew’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time."

Paying your respects

The funeral will be private but people are welcome to pay their respects along the processional route.

Members of the public can position themselves behind the barriers that will be in place.

Following the church service, there will be a private cremation and wake for family only.

Flowers and donations

The family has requested no flowers.

This means that no-one, including members of public and mourners, should bring flowers to Oxford city centre or the cathedral.

Flowers should also not be thrown at the cortege at any point on the route.

Instead of flowers, the family has requested that donations can be made to the following charities:

  • Tiggywinkles wildlife hospital, Aston Road, Haddenham, HP17 8AF.
  • Blue Cross rehoming centre, London Road, Lewknor, OX49 5RY.

Road Closures

To accommodate the funeral procession, a number of road closures will be put in place at 8am to 12.30pm, these will include:

  • The Plain
  • Magdalen Bridge
  • High Street
  • St Aldates – a closure will be in place from the city centre to the corner of Speedwell Street.

Please note that Longwall Street will be open southbound, traffic will then able to turn left on to High Street towards The Plain.

Cyclists will be asked to dismount if travelling in the closed roads.

Bike racks in the city centre will be available to use as normal.

Travelling by Bus

Buses will not be travelling through the city centre between 8am and 12.30pm.

The majority of bus routes will be diverted via Donnington Bridge Road.

Temporary bus stops will be placed on Iffley Road for those needing to access the city centre.


Police are advising motorists to use the Park and Ride services to access Oxford city centre.

Further, car parking is available at the Westgate shopping centre, Worcester Street and Oxpens.

Arriving by Train

Both Great Western Railway and Chiltern Railway will be operating their normal timetables on the day.

Please note that services are likely to be busier than usual, so plan ahead and leave plenty of time for your journey.
