MAJOR changes to trains and public transport are possible in Berkshire which will soon be revealed to the public.

The changes could include a train to Heathrow and quicker journey times on the Reading to Waterloo line, and an alternative road link between the M3 and M4.

More concrete details of how transport could change will be published next Thursday, October 10, when the draft transport strategy for the south-east will be opened public consultation.

The strategy will be published by Transport for the South East and its partners Berkshire Local Transport Body, and Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

Members of the public will be able to come and see presentations and ask questions to the transport body at an open day on Wednesday, October 16.

The open day will be held at Reading Town Hall, on Blagrave Street. It will run from 4.30pm until 6pm, and is an opportunity for the public to talk to the Transport for the South East team.

A spokesman for Transport for the South East said: “Everyone can come in and talk with the team and find out what it’s all about.”

Speaking at the event will be Councillor Tony Page, the lead for transport at Reading Borough Council, and Bill Hicks, head of infrastructure at Thames Valley Berkshire LEP.

The strategy will detail the body’s priorities for changes to transport in the region, and those depend on receiving government funding before going ahead.

The spokesman said: “The strategy sets out our partnership’s shared vision for the south-east, and how investment in sustainable transport can help make it happen.”

He said the changes could ‘boost jobs, improve quality of life, and dramatically reduce our impact on the environment’.

The strategy sets out the vision for transport in the south-east to the year 2050. Residents and businesses can have their say in a public consultation which will run until January next year.
