Up to 950 homes could built on a town centre shopping park in Reading.

The proposal seeks to replace the existing Reading Station Shopping Park, between Caversham Road and Vastern Road, with 750-950 homes.

It could also include a hotel, gym, dentist, community hub and shops.

Plans were presented at a public exhibition on September 25 and 26 at Reading’s Crowne Plaza hotel.

The shopping centre is currently home to TGI Fridays, Aldi, Majestic and Mothercare.

Aviva Investors will hold a final public exhibition in a few months to share its evolving plans, before submitting plans to Reading Borough Council (RBC) by the end of 2019.

A planning decision by RBC would then be expected in March or April 2020.

Barton Willmore, on behalf of Aviva Investors, said: “Aviva Investors are proud to present our initial proposals for the proposed redevelopment of the Station Shopping Park at our exhibition here today.

“We are looking forward to receiving feedback from the local community on our proposals, which will be used to further shape our plans going forward.

“We will hold a final public exhibition in a couple of months to share our evolving plans, following feedback we receive from residents and stakeholders over the next few weeks.

“Our final public exhibition will give the community another chance to have their say on the scheme before an outline planning application is submitted prior to Christmas.”

The site is allocated for redevelopment within the council’s emerging Local Plan, which was approved by an independent inspector today.

The Local Plan will be used to determine future planning decisions in the town.
