THE University of Reading has gained a spot on a vegan-friendly universities' list.

The University of Reading's vegetarian and vegan cafe, Dol.cHe Vita, helped them to win a spot on the list created by animal rights group, PETA.

The group selected 20 universities based on the availability of plant-based food options on campus and their initiatives to promote vegan eating.

Dol.cHe Vita serves vegan sandwiches, salads, smoothie bowls, snacks and drinks in compostable or reusable containers.

Mojo's Bar in the Students' Union also has a range of vegan options, such as burgers, chilli, pasta, and pizza.

PETA director, Elisa Allen, said: "Students in the UK are going vegan in huge numbers, and it's great to see universities joining the revolution.

"PETA commends the University of Reading for offering healthy and delicious vegan food options that everyone can enjoy."

Matt White, Director of Campus Commerce at the University of Reading added: “The University has been working closely with our student and staff customers and listening to feedback on the products and services we deliver.

"We have worked hard to cook up a portfolio of offers that meet our customers’ requirements, and our dedicated Vegetarian and Vegan café Dol.cHeVita had a refurb last year and is a great environment in which to enjoy some fantastic plant based food.”
