A new police station could be coming to the council’s offices.
Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Anthony Stansfeld has announced that Thames Valley Police (TVP) is considering opening a new station at the Civic Offices.
Mr Stansfield was speaking at Reading Borough Council’s (RBC) Policy committee, which takes place at the Civic Offices.
He revealed the police and council had held a “productive meeting” last week on the plans.
Reading’s police headquarters is moving out of the town centre after 40 years in Castle Street.
It is still set to move to Atlantic House, in a smaller office near Reading FC’s Madejski Stadium.
TVP has always planned to include a smaller town centre base for neighbourhood officers.
Chief Constable John Campbell said in May the force would look to secure a smaller town centre base for neighbourhood officers.
This is now set to be at the council’s Civic Offices, on Bridge Street, after Mr Stansfied’s announcement on behalf of TVP and RBC.
The search for a new station began in 2012.
