A MAN in his eighties has been taken to hospital with 'serious injuries' after a collision with a car and a lorry.

It was confirmed that a car had overturned on the M4 between junction 12 and 13, and two have been taken to hospital.

A spokesman from the South Central Ambulance Service said: "We received a 999 call at 11.50 with the caller reporting a collision between a car and a lorry on the M4 westbound between junctions 12 and 13, resulting in the car rolling over.

"We sent a specialist paramedic in a rapid response vehicle, a paramedic team leader in a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance and the Thames Valley Air Ambulance to the incident.

"The driver of the car, an 89-year-old male, was the sole occupant and he had sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.

"After being cut out of the vehicle with the help of the fire and rescue service, he was treated at the scene and then taken in a stable condition by road to the Royal Berkshire Hospital."

The incident has caused major delays on the M4.

A spokesman from Thames Valley Police said: "There was a road traffic collision on the M4, which was reported to us at 11.53am.

"The roads are in the process of being re-opened, and two people were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"There will be traffic congestion in the area while traffic flow returns to normal."

Highways England posted on Twitter to warn drivers.

The incident happened on the motorway westbound between junctions 12 and 13 near Theale.

It was also confirmed that delays of at least 30 minutes above normal travel time remain, back to J11.
