Their entry was initiated by the town centre management team but it was with help from the community they secured Silver.

Woodley's town centre manager, Brian Fennelly, said: "We are very proud.

"We put a big effort into it and are delighted to have got the Silver award."

Woodley Adopt a Street Project (WASP) were among those who helped the town centre achieve its Silver status.

The team is made up of residents who care about their community and whose focus is to keep the streets of Woodley clean and tidy.

They played a key role in this year's competition by weeding the town centre and clearing up cigarette butts prior to the judges visit.
