POLICE found blades and baseball bats during a national campaign to reduce knife crime.

Thames Valley Police tweeted that it discovered the items as part of Operation Sceptre, a nationwide crackdown taking place twice a year.

The campaign also lets people drop off weapons in special amnesty bins across the region, with 686 knives handed in across the Thames Valley during the previous crackdown in March.

Earlier this week, police neighbourhood officers covering Blackbird Leys, Greater Leys and Cowley used metal detectors to search bushes and hedgerows.
