A BRAND new vegan restaurant is opening in Caversham next month, owners have revealed.

Vegivores will be the newest addition to St Martin's Precinct in Caversham, situated next door to The Caversham Butcher.

Owner Kevin Farrell explained they are hoping to open their first restaurant "as soon as possible" and is aiming for some point in October, but can't yet confirm an exact date.

Vegivores first started trading in 2017 and spent the last two years trading at street food events such as Market Place, the University of Reading and have recently started to appear at every home game for Reading Football Club this season.

In addition, they have undertaken many private events - all of which will continue in tandem with the restaurant.

Mr Farrell said: "Absolutely everything we do is and always will be 100% plant based."

The restaurant will be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner menus on a sit down basis as well as some fresh grab and go options for breakfast and lunch.

He explained: "Some of our existing street food and catering classics will be on the menu alongside lots of new creations.

"Lunch menus will change constantly and dinner menus will change in line with the seasons alongside weekly specials.

"We will be serving an all day brunch menu at weekends and we are also fully licensed so will be serving a few carefully selected organic wines and local craft beers."

Mr Farrell feels the "excitement is definitely building" as his hopeful opening date gets closer.

He feels that there has been an increase in the public's want for vegan food in recent years.

He said: "The benefits of a plant based diet have been very well publicised from both a health and environmental perspective and although about half of our customers still eat meat, they are making a conscious effort to eat more vegetables which is great.

"The supermarkets and major restaurant groups are continuing to get on board meaning that this kind of food is getting more and more accessible as every day goes by which in turn increases it's popularity even further so we expect to see this upward momentum continue."

He added: "I would say thanks to our existing loyal customers who support us week in week out because without them there is no way any of this would be possible.

"For those who haven't tried our food yet I would say that we can't wait to welcome you and show you all the delicious things that can be done with plants!"
