A MAN has been hospitalised after being 'assualted with a weapon' in Overdown Road in Tilehurst.

There was a significant police presence at the scene of an incident, where police confirmed that a small car had been involved in a collision with a white van, and that the driver of the van was then 'assaulted with a weapon'.

A police spokesman said: "The occupants of the small car have then driven off.

"The van driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

"A thorough investigation is being conducted and members of the public will see an increased police presence whilst our investigation is ongoing.

"We would ask anyone with information to please call 101 quoting reference 628 28/8/19."

Overdown Road has been cordoned off, and paramedics seem to have been at the scene as medical equipment can be seen.

Police have also confirmed that the small car drove into the direction of nearby Stone Street. 

South Central Ambulance Service were also at the scene.

A spokesman said: "We were called to Oxford Road, Tilehurst today to reports of an assault.

“We sent to the scene an ambulance crew and an ambulance officer who was treating a male in his 30s.

“He was assessed and treated at the scene and taken to hospital for treatment to potentially serious injuries. “

Police are currently diverting cars from the area, which is close to a roundabout.

Cars are being rerouted towards Kentwood Hill.
