TRIBUTES have poured in on social media for a man who died at Reading Festival on the weekend.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained after a man fell ill on Saturday night (August 24).

He was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital shortly before 11pm and died in hospital on Monday, August 26.

Many have expressed their sympathy at the news of a death at the nationally-popular event, with some taking to social media to express their condolences.

On the Facebook announcement of the news on Thames Valley Police Reading's account, Agnes Bambrick Shute said: "My thoughts are with his family and the family of the young lady at Leeds.

"So sad."

The news follows the announcement of a 17-year-old girl's death at Leeds Festival.

She died of a suspected drug overdose at the Reading's joint festival event.

Sabrina Martindale commented: "Sad to hear that this is the second death after the one at Leeds - thoughts with all the family and friends of both of them."

Angela Schofield wrote: "So sad, my thoughts are with his family and friends."

A teenager also died at Reading Festival in 2017.

The inquest into Matthew Jones' death recorded an open verdict.

Formal identification of the man who died last week has not yet taken place, but the man's next of kin have been informed

Police have been contacted for an update and further details.

Reading Festival's police commander, chief superintendent Rob France said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has sadly died.

"We are investigating the circumstances of how he became ill and his death is being treated as unexplained at this time.

"We will continue to provide support to the man’s family at this difficult time."
