A multi-vehicle crash closed a section of the M40 yesterday.
Emergency services attended the incident between junctions 4 and 5 southbound.
Police asked drivers to remain in their vehicles and off the hard shoulder if they were stuck in the long tailbacks.
Some of those stuck on the motorway took to social media to criticise drivers who moved into the hard shoulder, preventing emergency services from reaching the crash scene as quickly as possible.
🚨SHOUT🚨 Crews from Thame, High Wycombe and a specialist rescue crew from Kidlington attended an RTC on the M40 this afternoon. Using hydraulic rescue equipment freed one casualty into care of South Central Ambulance Service and another assisted uninjured out of their vehicle
