A DRUG dealer given a 'final chance' and a community order by a judge has been locked up after failing to turn up to unpaid work.

Reece Tickell, 24, formerly of Acacia Avenue, Greater Leys, was spared jailed in June after he and an accomplice were caught with drugs at a BP garage on Woodstock Road, Oxford, on the night of January 30.

At his sentencing hearing for two counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs – heroin and cocaine – Judge Nigel Daly said he would grant him one 'final chance'.

For the offences Tickell was made subject to a community order for two years to include 100 hours of unpaid work and 25 days rehabilitation activity requirement.

Yesterday at the same court it was revealed that Tickell had breached this order by failing to attend unpaid work twice on July 1 and 3.

Probation officers at court also said that Tickell had not attended a further nine appointments.

In mitigation, Tickell's defence barrister Nawaz Khan said that his client had been made subject to an 'onerous' order and urged the court for leniency.

Sentencing, Judge Daly revoked the original community order and threw Tickell behind bars.

Jailing him, he explained: "I said this was your final chance, I spelled out the requirements of the order. I said I will make it quite clear these requirements are part of the community order.

"I have said if you breach the order I will revoke it and you will be sent to prison, don't think you will get away with it."

He was jailed for 40 months for the first count and 36 months for the second count, both to run concurrently, totalling 40 months. He must also pay a statutory victim surcharge.

At the original sentencing hearing prosecutor Kim Preston, outlining the case, said the men were first spotted by eagle-eyed officers inside a car pulled up at one of the BP garage pumps .

She said when officers got nearer the men tried to 'cover their faces' and on approach police could smell cannabis coming from inside the car.

Officers went on to search the men and discovered a haul of drugs worth nearly £500.

In all they found 41 wraps made up of 32 £10 wraps of heroin, six £10 wraps of crack cocaine and three larger £25 deals of cocaine.

The total value of the drugs seized was about £455.
